The Fateful Hour Deck

So I wanted to make this deck as the DKA spoilers were rolling out. I tried some builds with cards like Form of the Dragon and Death's Shadow, but in the end I went with this:

How does this deck work?

Don't let the 2x Dismember fool you, this deck is all-in on the Fateful Hour theme. Yeah, they can take town a pair of creatures, but they're in the deck mostly to sink your life total as quickly as possible.

The deck has two win conditions: First, it either wins with an army of human & spirit tokens buffed by Leyline of the Meek & Thraben Doomsayers. Next, if that fails, the deck can always go infinite with a Sun Titan recycling Second Chance for infinite turns.

How does this deck differ from similar decks out there?

I haven't really seen any other Fateful Hour decklists out there, but I'm sure they exist. Like I said, there are a number of ways you can go, including decks that feature either Form of the Dragon or Death's Shadow. Instead, here is a short list of some design decisions for this deck and why I made them:
  • The 1-of's (Spellskite, Faith's Shield, and Leyline of Sanctity) are in the deck to protect you from random things threatening to kill you at low health.
  • The 2-of's (Second Chance and Thraben Doomsayer) are there to draw eventually in order to combo out, but you don't necessarily want to draw multiples.
  • Sylvan Library, Convalescent Care, and Careful Study give you mass card draw. Together with fetch lands, you should be able to dig for a Second Chance consistently. (Note: If you have 4x Convalescent Care in play, even if they are all triggered, you only draw a card for each trigger if you have 5 life or less as each resolves.)
  • The enchantments, especially the leylines, help to power out the Sun Titans with Serra's Sanctum.

What is your favorite thing about the deck?

This deck can get really funny nut draws like this:
  • 2 Leyline of the Meek
  • 1 Ancient Tomb
  • 1 Spellskite
  • 1 Serra's Sanctum
  • 2 Gather the Townsfolk
That gives you 10x 3/3 Humans on turn 2. You get the idea, but that's a very special case. It usually takes at least until turn 3 to turn on Fateful Hour.
