New Card - Flayer of the Hatebound

It looks like the werewolves of last week are already old news. This week, undying seems to be taking the spotlight... and for good reason:

First Impression

Am I crazy or does every single Dark Ascension card combo with Gravecrawler?

Am I just making this up? Does anyone else feel this way? My first impression isn't even about the flayer (which is just a more powerful, higher casting costed version of the already powerful Murderous Redcap btw). Yes, the flayer is amazing and also fits well with Heartless Summoning and all that stuff, but I can't stop thinking about Gravecrawler possibilities in this block. I'm going to call it now and say that in Block Constructed, Gravecrawler is going to be the most played card in the entire block across all archetypes, variations, and what-have-you. I'm just grateful Wizards decided to make Gravecrawler a rare and not mythic.

Deck Ideas

Well, the deck that's speaking to me right now is the deck that I hinted at in my article: A Week in Review - Dark Ascension Preview Week #1. Except this time you can replace Burning Vengeance with Flayer of the Hatebound and you end up with a combination of cards that looks something like this: Honestly, I was really hoping for a demon version of the flayer so in this case... the Reaper from the Abyss might have to go. That guy only plays well with demons. I still think the above cards are the beginnings of a nice black/red aggro deck. You might even consider squeezing a copy of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in there as well.

It's hard to tell what the final version of this deck is going to look like. There are still plenty of cards in Dark Ascension to spoil that could take this is all kinds of different directions.

  1. How about vengful pharoh that always comes out when someone attacks

  2. I don't think that would work because Vengeful Pharaoh goes on top of your library and not directly from your graveyard to play.
