New Card - Chalice of Life / Chalice of Death

As expected, while Innistrad was the introduction to new double-faced cards, Dark Ascension is going to be a massive expansion of the new mechanic. Especially since Maro already announced that Avacyn Restored (the upcoming 3rd set of the Innistrad Blook) is going to have zero double-faced cards, it's here in Dark Ascension that they're going to go all-out.

First Impressions

Yesterday on the MTG Salvation message boards, I made a thread in the speculation forum where I tried to guess what they were going to do with Transform next. One of the things at the top of my list were things like:
  • An enchantment with Transform.
  • A cycle of lands with Transform.
  • An artifact with Transform.
And to nobody's surprise, here's our first glimpse. I'm sure there is much, much more to come now that Transform has been unleashed from the shackles of "introducing a new mechanic" and is now open to full creative freedom.

Deck Ideas

At the time that I write this, I can't help but point out that there are no less than five "gain life decks" in the Legacy Deckssection of this blog. And all of those decks are currently under the "failed experiment" sub-heading. Those decks are full of the usual stuff like Serra Ascendants and Felidar Sovereigns. I just hope that this is only the first of many cards that deal with gaining life. Maybe one day I'll be able to make a gain life deck that I actually like.
