Erratic Draco

Here's an old deck idea of mine, now updated for the Legacy Ruleset. The Erratic Explosion + Draco combo was figured out the moment Erratic Explosion was printed, but I don't think the deck really came together until the cascade mechanic was introduced in Alara Reborn.

Erratic Draco

Creatures (16)
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Wall of Blossoms
4 Bloodbraid Elf
2 Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
2 Draco

Draw/Tutor (10)
4 Brainstorm
4 Sylvan Library
1 Worldly Tutor
1 Future Sight

Control (10)
4 Erratic Explosion
2 Bituminous Blast
4 Hull Breach

Land (24)
4 Tropical Island
4 Volcanic Island
4 Taiga
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Flooded Strand
1 Scrubland
3 Forest

How does the deck work?

Brainstorm and Sylvan Library stack the deck and Erratic Explosion and the cascading cards seal the deal. Brainstorm digs 3 cards deep and can stack any card from your hand while Sylvan Library lets you dig deeper and deeper every upkeep, both setting up the perfect Erratic Explosion or a series of cascades. If that fails, Brainstorm and Sylvan Library both power Niv-Mizzet which can change the entire complexion of the battlefield.

How does this deck differ from similar decks out there?

I've attempted to make Erratic Draco decks in the past, but without something else to take advantage of the stacking effect (other than the Erratic Explosions) I always felt like it just wasn't enough. Cascade kind of brings it all together. And of course, you can combine it all together when you cast a Bloodbraid Elf, cascade into Erratic Explosion, and revealing Draco on the top of your deck, all set up by Brainstorm and Sylvan Library. (Niv-Mizzet and Future Sight are a plus, but they aren't necessary. Sometimes they just act as 6cc and 5cc cards for the explosion to fling.)

What is your favorite thing about the deck?

The single Scrubland is in the deck to help hard cast Draco and just beat face. The threat of a 9/9 flier is always fun to have in any deck.
